Honors Mary and the prayer of the Rosary. The feast traces its origin to thanksgiving for the Christian victory at Lepanto in 1571, attributed to the praying of the Rosary.

Thu, Oct 15 — Saint Teresa of Jesus, Virgin and Doctor of the Church (Memorial)
St. Teresa of Avila (1515–1582), a Spanish Carmelite nun, mystic and reformer, wrote classics of prayer such as The Interior Castle. She was among the first women named Doctors of the Church.

Fri, Oct 16 — Saint Gall, Abbot and Missionary ☘ (Irish Calendar (optional memorial in Ireland))
An Irish monk and companion of St. Columban who settled as a hermit in what is now Switzerland. The town and famous abbey of St. Gallen bear his name.

Sat, Oct 17 — Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr (Memorial)
Bishop of Antioch who was martyred in Rome in the early 2nd century. The letters he wrote on his way to martyrdom are treasured witnesses to the faith of the early Church.

Mon, Oct 19 — Saints John de Brébeuf and Isaac Jogues, Priests, and Companions, Martyrs (Memorial)
The North American Martyrs: French Jesuit missionaries and their lay companions who gave their lives in the 1640s in what is now upstate New York and Canada.
